HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - June 20, 2001 E-20CITY OF LODI COUNCIL i i AGENDA TITLE: Donation of Retired Police Patrol Car to San Joaquin County Sheriffs Jail Industries Program MEETING DATE: June 20, 2001 PREPARED BY: Police Chief/Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the donation of a retired police patrol car to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Jail Industries Program. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Sheriffs Jail Industries Program employees Honor Farm inmates to provide auto bodywork, painting, and other automotive repair services to various government entities at substantially discounted prices. In turn, jail inmates are taught various vocation skills in an attempt to prevent recidivism. This program has been beneficial to the City of Lodi in that high- quality repainting and bodywork has been received on a number of City vehicles at relatively low cost. The director of the Honor Farm's Auto Body Shop has asked that the City donate a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria, #05-069, for spare parts purposes. The vehicle has been used as a part source for a number of years by the City's Fleet Services Shop and has little auction value. Enough parts remain, however, that the Honor Farm would benefit from receiving this vehicle. This would enhance a mutually -beneficial working relationship. FUNDING: No City funds will be expended to accomplish this project beyond the administrative personnel costs that would be expended for any vehicle disposition. The Honor Farm will arrange for transport of the vehicle. C Jerry/J. Ados Chief of Police Prepared by: Sgt.
