AGENDA TITLE: Acceptance of Improvements Under Thurman Street Improvements,
Beckman Road to 1,800 Feet East of Beckman Road Contract
MEETING DATE: December 20, 1995
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council accept the improvements under the "Thurman Street
Improvements, Beckman Road to 1,800 Feet East of Beckman Road"
contract, and direct the City Engineer to file a Notice of Completion with
the County Recorder's office.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The contract was awarded to DSS Construction of Stockton on
January 4, 1995 in the amount of $388,111.78. The contract has
been completed in substantial conformance with the plans and
specifications approved by the City Council.
This project consisted of constructing the full pavement width of Thurman Street, from Beckman Road
to the east side of the Reid Industrial Substation, and included curb, gutter, water mains, storm drains
and sanitary sewers. Sidewalk was installed along the RE Service Co. and Substation parcels. Also
included was a 24 -foot wide access road to the Substation and Well 4R site from Thurman Street.
The contract completion date was September 11, 1995, and the actual completion date was
September 21, 1995. The final contract price was $398,128.98. The difference between the contract
amount and the final contract price is mainly due to minor differences between the engineer's estimate
and the actual contract quantities. Also, the City had the contractor install a 16 -inch water line for the
future connection to the planned water storage tank and this increased the cost of the project.
FUNDING: Funding for this project was derived from a variety of sources:
