HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - October 18, 1995 (68)4` of CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION 00r pP AGENDA TITLE: Standardization of Bus Stop Shelters MEETING DATE: October 18, 1995 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That City Council, by motion action, standardize on a bus stop shelter manufactured by Daytech Manufacturing, Inc. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Under City of Lodi Purchasing System Procedures, Section 3.20.070 (Bidding), bidding procedures can be dispensed with when City Council determines it is in the best interest of the City. City Council previously standardized on a number of items in the Public Works Department; i.e., water meters, fire hydrants, storm drain pumps, electric motors, traffic controllers, electrical panels, etc. Freedman Tung & Bottomley has recommended the Daytech bus stop shelter for the downtown area. This shelter is also currently being used by the City of San Francisco. Attached as Exhibit A are examples of this type of shelter. It is our desire to standardize on the dome top -type shelter. They range in cost from $2,600 to $3,000 depending on the length, width and the number of enclosed sides. Depending on ridership, location, amount of right of way, existing sidewalk width, and the direction of the rain, we want the flexibility to purchase any one of the four dome top -type shelters. We will initially be installing a minimum of four shelters at the following locations: • Post Office • Fairmont Avenue (south of Kettleman Lane) • Wal-Mart • Target It is critical Council take this action at this time so we can order and install these shelters as soon as possible. These shelters will be installed by City crews. FUNDING: Federal Transit funds.
