BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Funds to purchase a tractor/loader with backhoe for the Water/Wastewater Division of the Public Works Department were approved for 1995-97 Financial Plan and Budget for replacement in 1995-96. The City purchased Unit #04-033, a 1976 Case Model 580C Tractor, in March of 1979 for $28,885. It has an hour meter reading of 3,715 hours, has accumulated more than $37,860 in repair costs, endured an average 40 hours/year down time, and reached full depreciation in 1986. The Water/Wastewater Construction Crew uses this backhoe on a daily basis to dig trenches for a variety of tasks while working on City projects and subdivision work for others. Upon its replacement, the existing unit will be transferred to White Slough, replacing Unit #04-194. Unit #04-194 is a 1974 Case Model 580B Tractor used to perform weekly tasks. Unit #04- 033 can sufficiently perform the weekly tasks required around White Slough's 1,040 acres. Staff requests Council to authorize the transfer of Unit #04-033 to the White Slough Water Pollution Control Facility. Approval is also requested to use Unit #04-194 for trade-in value or disposal through either sealed bid or auction by Roger Ernst and Associates of Modesto with proceeds placed in Water and Sewer Equipment Funds.
