AGENDA TITLE: Temporary Suspension of Electric Power Rate Schedule G5 -P Peak Period Demand
Charges for Lodi Iron Works
MEETING DATE: May 17, 1995
SUBMITTED BY: Acting Electric Utility Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve a temporary suspension of the peak period
demand charges on Electric Rate Schedule G5 -P for Lodi Iron Works (LIW)
during the months of May, June and July 1995.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: LIW has previously been able to avoid G5 -P peak period demand charges
through judicious scheduling of major casting work into non -peak periods
(outside of the 3 p.m. - 7 p.m, period). This scheduling has helped the City
reduce its need for additional generation resources. LIW anticipates that it may
receive an order that will force casting pours into the more costly peak period ($10 in addition to $2.95 per kilowatt).
The added charges would remove the economic incentive for LIW to proceed with the order.
For reasons not associated with LIW, the Electric Utility Department at this time has surplus'take or pay' capacity.
The foregone revenue form the temporary suspension of the peak period capacity charge would not affect budgeted
revenue as this revenue was not included in revenue estimates because of LIW's historical load pattern. All energy
usage would continue to be billed in accordance with Schedule G5 -P.
It is intended that this exception to the Electric Rate Schedule is solely to assist LIW in meeting the special
conditions that may be required for the above-mentioned order_
FUNDING: Not applicable.
