COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Purchase of Communications Radios for the Police
Department ($13,855.05)

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution
awarding the bid for the purchase of six Motorola
radios to Motorola Communications and Electronics of
Stockton in the amount of $13,855.05.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On April 5, 1995, the City Council approved
specifications and authorized advertisement for bids for six
Motorola Secure -Channel communications radios for
use by the Police Department's Bike Patrol, SWAT
Team, and Gang Patrol Units.
Bids were opened on April 19, 1995. Although bid forms were sent to three Motorola distributors,
only Motorola submitted a proposal:
Motorola Communications & Electronics, Stockton $13,855.05
Lagorio Communications, Manteca No Bid
Comtech Mobile Telephone Co., Sacramento No Response
In order to evaluate Motorola's bid in terms of competitiveness, prices on similar equipment were com-
pared to last year's bid (for the Saber radios), and to San Joaquin County's contract with Motorola (for
the Spectra units). A summary of the evaluation is attached as Exhibit A.

AWARDING THE BID FOR SIX MOTOROLA RADIOS
FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, in answer to notice duly published in accordance with law and the order of this City
Council sealed bids were received and publicly opened on April 19, 1995 at 11:00 a.m. for the bid for six
Motorola Secure -Channel communication radios for the Police Department, described in the specifications
therefore approved by the City Council on April 5, 1995; and
WHEREAS, said bids have been compared, checked, and tabulated and a report thereof filed with
the City Manager as follows:

WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends award of the bid for six Motorola Secure -Channel
communication radios, be made to the only bidder, Motorola Communications and Electronics of Stockton,
CA; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lodi City Council that the award of the bid for six
Motorola Secure -Channel communication radios, be and the same is hereby awarded to Motorola
Communications and Electronics of Stockton, the only bidder, in the amount of $13,855.05.
