HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - April 5, 1995 (81)CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION 4 AGENDA TITLE: Purchase of Fire Department Sedan ($25,950) MEETING DATE: April 5, 1995 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director 4 - RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution to purchase a sedan for the Fire Department from Downtown Ford of Sacramento in the amount of $20,448.80, and authorize the expenditure of $5,500.00 for emergency equipment and accessories. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Fire Chief currently drives a van assigned to another division. His predecessor drew a vehicle allowance. During the 1994/95 budget hearings, a decision was made to wait until the new Fire Chief arrived to determine if a vehicle allowance would be used or a new vehicle purchased. Recently -appointed Fire Chief Howard does not wish to draw vehicle allowance and has requested a vehicle. Funds were approved in the budget for replacement of the vehicle assigned to the Fire and Life Safety Division. It is requested this replacement vehicle be deferred until after review of the recently developec Vehicle Replacement Program and the funds be used to assist in purchase of this vehicle for the Chief. In addition, it is requested that funds approved in the budget for vehicle allowance be used toward this purchase. In the past, used rental agency vehicles (i.e., Hertz, Avis, etc.) with low mileage have been purchased for the Fire Department. Chief Howard recommends purchasing a vehicle equipped with lights and siren for emergency response. Quotes were obtained for a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria sedan similar to the units used by the Police Department. In addition to the two bids received, a bid was solicited from the local Ford dealer. The local dealer was unable to bid this unit.
