AGENDA TITLE: Urgency Ordinance Amending Chapter 2.24 of the
Lodi Municipal Code By Adding a Section Relating
to Standards and Training for Corrections
MEETING -DATE: April 5, 1995

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt an Urgency Ordinance
Amending Chapter 2.24 of the Lodi Municipal Code
by adding a Section relating to Standards and
Training for Corrections.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Police Department is requesting this
additional City Ordinance so they may apply
for State Jail Training funding, which is
not covered by the Commission on Peace
Officer Standards and Training (POST).
All Correctional training is now funded by the Board of Corrections
through their Standards and Training for Corrections (STC). This
training is critical to sworn and non -sworn personnel who have jail
responsibilities either in a line or supervisory capacity.
The funding for training will be granted to the City of Lodi on an
annual basis and will cover course travel, tuition, per diem, and
overtime costs associated with replacing staff who are attending
training.

AN URGENCY ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LODI
AMENDING CHAPTER 2.24 OF THE LODI MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING
THERETO SECTION 2.24.030, RELATING TO STANDARDS AND
TRAINING FOR CORRECTIONS
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LODI AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION L. Chapter 2.24 - Peace Officer Training - is hereby amended by adding
thereto a new Section 2.24.030, relating to Standards and Training for Corrections to read
as follows:
The City declares that it desires to qualify to receive aid
from the State under the provisions of Chapter 5, Title 7,
Part 3 of the California Penal Code, relative to Corrections
Training Fund. While receiving any State aid pursuant to
Article 3, commencing with §6040 of the California Penal
Code, the City of Lodi will adhere to the standards for
selection and training established by the Board of
Corrections.
SECTION 2.. Because of time limits on the availability of State funding for this
program, this ordinance is adopted as an urgency ordinance under Government Code
§36934, based on health, safety and welfare considerations arising from the City's desire
to qualify to receive aid from the State under the provisions of Chapter 5, Title 7, Part 3
of the California Penal Code, relative to Corrections Training Fund.
SECTION 3- All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed
insofar as such conflict may exist.
SECTION 4.. This ordinance shall be published one time in the "Lodi News Sentinel", a
daily newspaper of general circulation printed and published in the City of Lodi and shall
be in force and take effect immediately after its passage and approval.
