AGENDA TITLE: Purchase of Turf Fertilizer for the Parks Department ($8,242.88)

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution awarding the
bid for the purchase of 18 tons of Best® Turf Gold fertilizer to the
low bidder, San Joaquin Sulphur Company of Lodi, in the amount
of $8,242.88.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On January 17, 1995, the City Council approved revised specifi-
cations which provided for fertilizer to be supplied either in 50 -
pound bags or in bulk, and authorized the advertisement for bids.
Forms requesting proposals for both bagged and bulk fertilizer were sent to eight suppliers;
five responded. The following five bids for bagged fertilizer were received, and on February 15, 1995,
were opened and read.
Because San Joaquin Sulphur Co. is located within the City limits and is licensed by the State Board of
Equalization to collect sales tax within the city, 1% or $76.50 of the sales tax amount paid on this
purchase will be returned to the City of Lodi by the State. Therefore, the total net cost to the City for
this purchase, when purchased from San Joaquin Sulphur Co., is $8.166.38

A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
AWARDING THE BID FOR PURCHASE OF 18 TONS OF BEST®
TURF GOLD FERTILIZER FOR THE PARKS DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, in answer to notice duly published in accordance with law and the order of this City
Council sealed bids were received and publicly opened on February 15, 1995 at 11:00 a.m. for the bid for
the purchase 18 tons of Best® Turf Gold Fertilizer for the Parks Department, described in the
specifications therefore approved by the City Council on January 17, 1995; and
WHEREAS, said bids have been compared, checked, and tabulated and a report thereof filed with
the City Manager as follows:

WHEREAS, the City Manager recommends that award of the bid for the purchase of 18 tons of
Best® Turf Gold Fertilizer for the Parks Department be made to the lowest bidder, San Joaquin Sulfur
Company, Lodi, CA; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lodi City Council that award of bid for the
purchase of 18 tons of Best® Turf Gold Fertilizer for the Parks Department be and the same is hereby
awarded to San Joaquin Sulfur Company, Lodi, CA, the lowest bidder, in the amount of $8,242.88.
