BACKGROUND INFORMATION: It is important for Transit Coordinator Kirk Evans to be near the center of operations at the Dispatch Center. There is not sufficient room for him in the basement of Carnegie Forum, nor a space for the Community Improvement Officer who works under Mr. Evans' supervision. We do have space available at the Transit Dispatch Center, now located in the studio behind the home at Pleasant and Elm St. We have developed plans and are requesting the City Council to approve plans and specifications for creating office space there. It is estimated the cost of this expansion will be $20,422, as shown in the attachment (Exhibit A). The entire expansion will be funded with Transportation Development Act (TDA) dollars. By approving this project now we will have the necessary office space when the City Hall is closed for renovation. Whatever eventually happens to the Dispatch Center, the office space that is created will be utilized in the future. Council is requested to approve the plans and specification and authorize staff to advertise for bids. Because the job is small and time is running short, we will have a short bid period and should be in a position to award a bid on March 1, 1995.
