HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - February 1, 1995 (67) OF CITY OF LODE COUNCIL COMMUNICATION c4Foe+P AGENDA TITLE: Agreement for Engineering Services for Phase II of the Train Station Project MEETING DATE: February 1, 1995 SUBMITTED BY: Assistant City Manager RECOMMENDED ACTION: The City Council concur with staff negotiating an agreement for engineering services for Phase II of the Train Station Project. If such an agreement is reached, it will be brought back to City Council for final action. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Council will recall it appointed two citizens, Jack Fiori and Ken Boyd to a committee to review the proposals for Phase II of the Train Station Project. That committee, which consisted of Ken Boyd, Jack Fiori, Richard Prima, City of Lodi Staff; and Stacy Mortensen, County Department of Public Works; and Bob van Rooyan, CalTrans Division of Rail. They reviewed a total of seven proposals and interviewed four. The procedure from this point on is to make an effort to work out a satisfactory agreement with the number one selection - Wilbur Smith and Associates (WSA). WSA did the first phase of the study and is familiar with the City of Lodi, its staff and we are comfortable with again working with them. Their bid cost was $272,930. This is within $3,100 of the entire budget and leaves little or nothing for contingencies. We are reviewing their proposal to determine if the scope of work outlined can in anyway be reduced in order to reduce the cost of the project. We have notified WSA they were the number one selection of the committee and have asked them for some suggestions to reduce the cost of the project. That action was taken on Thursday, January 19, 1995. We have received some preliminary ideas; however, the principal is away from the office this week, but has indicated their delight in their selection and expressed a willingness to work with us in coming to a satisfactory agreement.
