HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - January 18, 1995 (68)Q CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION cq<rF R��P AGENDA TITLE: Siting of University of California Campus at.Lake Yosemite, Merced MEETING DATE: January 18, 1995 SUBMITTED BY: City Manager RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt Resolution No. 95-10, " A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Lodi . Supporting the Merced Lake Yosemite Site for the Tenth Campus of the University of California. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Board of Regents of the University of California is in the final stages of the selection of the newest site for a campus of the University. According to information received from the City of Merced, the number of potential sites has been reduced to three. One is the Merced Lake Yosemite site. The other two are closer to the Fresno area. Geographically, the Merced site is the one closest to the City of Lodi. All of the cities in the Central Valley Division of the League of California Cities have been asked by the City of Merced to support the siting in the Merced area by the adoption of a resolution (Exhibit A). PETERSON recycled paper L City Manager CC -1 RESOLUTION NO. 95-10 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE MERCED LAKE YOSEMITE SITE FOR THE TENTH CAMPUS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA WHEREAS, the Regents of the University of California have narrowed the site selection process to three potential sites for the tenth campus of the University; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lodi is interested in having a site selected that will ensure geographic accessibility to the students of this community; and WHEREAS, it is important that the site selected be not only accessible, but also environmentally appropriate and economically feasible; and WHEREAS, the draft environmental impact report acknowledges the environmental appropriateness of the Merced Lake Yosemite site; and WHEREAS, the land upon which the university would be constructed at Lake Yosemite has been offered free to the Regents, and would further benefit an educational trust for scholarships; and WHEREAS, the Merced Lake Yosemite site is not located on prime agricultural soils; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lodi that the Merced Lake Yosemite site is the best location for meeting the higher educational needs of citizens of this community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Lodi supports the Merced Lake Yosemite site for the tenth campus of the University of California.
