HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - June 6, 2001 E-12AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Awarding the Contract for Traffic Safety Improvements to CalTraffic of Ceres
($6820); and Appropriate Funds for the Project
MEETING DATE: June 6, 2001
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution awarding the contract for traffic safety
improvements to CalTraffic of Ceres; and appropriate $6,814.73 for the project.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project consists of installing new fluorescent yellow green warning signs
approved by Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). At approximately 140
locations, staff is recommending replacing the yellow pedestrian warning signs
with the new fluorescent yellow green warning signs. The Federal Highway
Administration approved the new color as a result of several studies that showed drivers slow down upon approaching
the new signs, the signs are visible from a greater distance, and there are fewer near -miss "pedestrian versus
motorist' conflicts. This is a portion of the $42,000 Pedestrian Safety Improvements project approved by Council at its
meeting of July 19, 2000. The pedestrian push-button remaining portion of the project has not yet bid.
Specifications for this project were approved on July 19, 2000. The City received four bids for this project. Although
the bid from ZAP Manufacturing of Grass Valley is less than the other three bids received, it was determined to be
non-responsive as it did not include prices for required hardware.
