AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Awarding Contract for Stockton Street Reconstruction, Tokay Street to
Lodi Avenue, to Dell Engineering, of Stockton ($792,600); and Appropriate Funds for the Project
MEETING DATE: June 6, 2001
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution awarding the contract for the above project
to Dell Engineering, of Stockton, in the amount of $792,591 and appropriate funds in
accordance with the recommendation shown below.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project consists of reconstructing Stockton Street from Tokay Street to
Lodi Avenue. The reconstruction includes removing and replacing asphalt concrete
payment; repairing damaged curb, gutter, and sidewalks; installing new street
lights; installing new water mains; replacing old wastewater pipes; upgrading storm
drain facilities; and other miscellaneous and related work, all as shown on the plans and specifications for
"Stockton Street Reconstruction, Tokay Street to Lodi Avenue" The plans are on file in the Public Works Department.
Plans and specifications for this project were approved on April 4, 2001. The City received the following two bids for
this project:
Bidder Location Bid
Engineer's Estimate $650,000
Dell Engineering Stockton $792,591
Granite Construction Stockton $946,273
In light of Council priorities to construct this project this year, we are recommending award of the contract to Dell
Engineering. The difference between the low bid and engineer's estimate is attributed to the high level of
construction work in our area, increased costs for materials and the short project. Staff feels the bids are
reasonable and competitive.
