HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - June 6, 2001 E-06F nCITY OF LODICOMMUNICATION 4CiFoR AGENDA TITLE: Approve Specifications and Authorize Advertisement for Bids for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Equipment MEETING DATE: June 6, 2001 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve specifications and authorize advertisement for bids for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) equipment. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Public Works is planning to build a CNG station at the Municipal Service Center, 1331 South Ham Lane. Because of the change in the GrapeLine bus specifications and the increased presence of CNG vehicles in the City fleet, Public Works has taken more time to determine if the original sizing is adequate for current and future needs. Public Works is recommending approval of the specifications and advertisement now for equipment only for two main reasons. First, if the City waits until a construction contractor is chosen, lead times may force construction into the rainy season. Second, many construction contractors may have trouble acquiring the equipment because of the equipment's high cost and manufacturers' requirement for prepayment. Public Works will present the plans and specifications for construction in the near future. The equipment to be purchased includes the following: CNG (two hoses) light-duty dispenser, CNG (one hose) transit dispenser, Gasoline/Diesel (four hoses) dispenser, Fuel Card Reader, and one three -bank storage vessel. Public Works will purchase an additional compressor and one three -bank storage vessel within two years to meet future demand; however, we will attempt to secure grant funds for those purchases. The design of the station incorporates this future equipment. Specifications are on file in the Public Works Department.
