AGENDA TITLE: Presentation By The Community Partnership For Families
Of San Joaquin
MEETING DATE: June 6, 2001
PREPARED BY: Janet L. Hamilton, Management Analyst
RECOMMENDATION: None.
BACKGROUND: Phyllis Grupe, Chairperson for the Community Partnership for
Families of San Joaquin, and Stewart Wakeling, Juvenile Justice
Coordinator for San Joaquin County, will give a presentation to
Council updating the progress of the Partnership and its work in Lodi.
The Community Partnership for Families is a broad partnership of neighborhood groups, churches,
schools, public and private health, social service, criminal justice, municipal agencies, and the business
community. The overarching goal of the Partnership is to improve specific health, education, economic,
and public safety outcomes for children, youth, and families.
Along with the City of Lodi and Lodi Unified School District, the Partnership has been working to improve
and increase the services, opportunities, activities, and support available to families living and working in
East Lodi. Last year's "Celebration on Central" marked an important step in this process. Currently, it is
planning to expand the services available to families through the Healthy Start sites at Heritage and
Lawrence Elementary Schools. As noted, this may include a wide range of services and activities, from
integrated service teams to food pantries to after-school tutoring and recreation programs.
