AGENDA TITLE: Authorization to use Asset Seizure Funds for the Purchase of
New Digital Cellular Phone Equipment for the Lodi Police
Department

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize the Lodi Police Department to purchase new digital
Samsung cellular telephone equipment in the amount of $6,510 from the Federal
Asset Seizure Account.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On December 20, 2000, the Lodi City Council adopted a resolution (No.
2000-236), awarding a two-year contract for cellular phone service to Verizon
Wireless under the terms of their contract with the City of Stockton,
California, at a cost of $2,300 for new equipment. Under this plan, the City
would receive Nokia 5160 equipment at no charge and would only be responsible for the tax due on the
suggested retail value per unit. It was estimated that 160 units were needed to replace the existing AT&T phones for
a total cost of $2,300. Additional equipment such as Nokia car kits, chargers or Samsung 850 cellular phones were
not included in the equipment offer. The Lodi Police Department did receive (22) Nokia 5160 cellular phones,
however purchased additional equipment to support the Nokia 5160 phones and additional Samsung 850 and related
equipment at a cost of $6,510. The following is a summary of the equipment received from Verizon and the costs:

A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL
AUTHORIZING USE OF ASSET SEIZURE FUNDS TO

EQUIPMENT FOR THE LODI POLICE DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, on December 20, 2000, the Lodi City Council adopted Resolution

WHEREAS, under this contract, the City would receive Nokia 5160 equipment at

WHEREAS, Lodi Police Department did receive 22 Nokia 5160 cellular phones,
however, purchased additional equipment to support the Nokia 5160 phones and
additional Samsung 860 and related equipment at a cost of $6,510.00.
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council hereby approves the use of
$6,510.00 from the Asset Seizure Funds, to purchase new Digital Cellular Phone
Equipment for the Lodi Police Department.
