COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: National Preservation Month Proclamation
MEETING DATE: May 3, 2023
PREPARED BY: City Clerk
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Mayor Pro Tempore Craig will present a proclamation declaring May 2023
as National Preservation Month.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: May is National Preservation Month across the nation. The California
Office of Historic Preservation invites all California communities and
preservation enthusiasts to make the month of May an opportunity for
discovering, honoring, and sharing the unique heritage of the local region. Historic preservation is about
preserving buildings and sites and the stories and traditions connected to those places. This year's theme is
"People Saving Places."
The City Council would like to recognize the Woman's Club of Lodi, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
The building, located at 325 West Pine Street, was built in 1923 to house the club, which was formed in 1906 as
a civic improvement group. The Woman's Club of Lodi was added to the National Register of Historic Places on
May 20, 1988.
