HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - April 4, 2001 E-10AGENDA TITLE: Accept Improvements Under Contract for Demolition, Clearing and Grading,
11, 15, and 17 West Elm Street
MEETING DATE: April 4, 2001
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council accept the improvements under the "Demolition,
Clearing and Grading, 11, 15, and 17 West Elm Street" contract.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The project was awarded to SEMCO, of Modesto, on June 7, 2000,
in the amount of $37,301.38. The contract has been completed in
substantial conformance with the plans and specifications approved
by the City Council.
The contract completion date was August 28, 2000, however, the project was suspended when the
contractor informed the City that the structure in the northwest corner of the project could not be
removed without reinforcing the building at 23 W. Elm Street (the Merlot Building). The City obtained a
building permit and reinforced the Merlot Building after receiving a recommendation from a structural
engineer. SEMCO then hired F&H Construction as a subcontractor to demolish the old structure. This
demolition occurred during the first week of January, 2001. A contract change order was issued for the
demolition work because the City could not verify that the connection between the two buildings was as
described in the specifications. The final contract price was $82,316.78.
Following acceptance by the City Council, the City Engineer will file a Notice of Completion with the
County Recorder's office.
FUNDING: Budgeted Fund: Community Development Block Grant Fund
Contract Amount: $82,316.78
