HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - April 4, 2001 E-03CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Approve Plans and Specifications and Advertisement for Bids for Stockton Street Reconstruction (Tokay Street to Lodi Avenue and Lodi Avenue to Lockeford Street) MEETING DATE: April 4, 2001 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the plans and specifications for the above project and authorize advertising for bids. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Stockton Street Reconstruction project is the result of several years of planning and research that considered many alternatives. The project design selection was collaboratively made with input from the City residents in the area. Aside from the restoration of the surface improvements (sidewalks, parkways, lighting, and asphalt), a significant element of this project is the reconstruction of major water and wastewater pipes. These pipes are integral to upgrading the level of service for water and wastewater utilities on the East Side of the City. These two projects consist of reconstructing Stockton Street from Tokay Street to Lockeford Street. The reconstruction includes removing and replacing asphalt concrete payment; repairing damaged curb, gutter, and sidewalks; installing new street lights; installing new water mains; replacing old wastewater pipes; upgrading storm drain facilities, and other miscellaneous and related work, all as shown on the plans and specifications for "Stockton Street Reconstruction, Tokay Street to Lodi Avenue" and "Stockton Street Reconstruction, Lodi Avenue to Lockeford Street." In order to reduce the construction time for the projects, staff recommends dividing the Stockton Street reconstruction project from Tokay Street to Lockeford Street into two separate projects. The staging of work in one project area will not impact the work in the other area. This allows the opportunity for two separate prime contractors to bid the jobs and hence reduce the necessary number of working days to complete the project. The plans and specifications are on file in the Public Works Department. FUNDING: The money for these projects will be coming primarily from federal funds. A request for appropriation of funds will be made at contract award. Project Estimate $ 657,000 (Tokay Street to Lodi Avenue) $1,300,000 (Lodi Avenue to Lockeford Street) APPROVED: L }V ccstackton H.
