AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Approving the Appropriation of $8,085 for the Completion of the
Seating Project at Zupo Field
MEETING DATE: March 21, 2001
PREPARED BY: Parks and Recreation Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve an appropriation of $8,085 to complete the
seating project at Zupo Field
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In the summer of 1999, the Parks and Recreation Department, in
conjunction with the Stockton Ports, raised funds toward new seats
at Zupo Field, with the goal of installing 275 seats. Funding fell
short and only 225 seats could be purchased and installed.
The Lodi Sports Foundation has expressed a desire to complete the project by purchasing and installing
the additional 50 seats. The Foundation has $1,625 toward the project and is requesting the city to
allocate the balance of $8,085 for a total of $9,710. A letter from the Lodi Sports Foundation is attached.
FUNDING: $8,085 from the Contingency Fund

RE: Seating at Zupo Field
As you may recall, the Parks and Recreation Dept. and the Mudville
Nine Professional Baseball Club initiated the installation of the seats
behind home plate at Zupo. For that project, donations of V 00 per
seat were requested. Unfortunately, the 3100 was not adequate and
only 225 of approximately 275 seats were installed.
We then took over the project with the direction from the Parks and
Recreation Dept. that we should solicit donations of$125 per seat.
Through a general solicitation, we received contributions for five seats.
These five seats have not been installed and no additional
contributions have been solicited because we were informed that the
$125 would not be adequate. Rather, we were recently informed that
the per seat price would be $194.18 or 59,709 if 50 are required.
We would very much like to complete the seating project but I cannot
recommend to our board that we do so at S 194.18 per seat. I will,
however, recommend to our board that we commit 56,250 to the
project if the City will, without using Parks and Recreation D .
funds, commit the balance of 53,459. For us to do this, we would
request a loan from the City of 54,625. (We would not require a loan
for the full amount because we have. received contributions for five
scats and the Lodi Sports Hall of Fame has made a commitment to us
for $1,000.)
If you believe that this is something that the City would be willing to
do, please call me at 369.1451 and I will present it to our board.
