BACKGROUND INFORMATION:The Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission, in conjunction with the
Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club, Expanding Solutions and Central Valley Waste Services is
sponsoring a program entitled Honoring Teens. The Lodi Youth Commission
Leadership Committee selects one teen to be awarded Teen of the Month from the
applications submitted to the commission from the general public, various schools, and
church groups. This month's Teen of the Month is Jamie Funamura from Tokay High
School.

March Teen of the Month
Jamie Funamura is a leader in the area of Academic Achievement at Tokay High
School. On February 9, 2001 Jamie was named as a finalist in the 2001 National
Merit Scholarship Program. This group represents less than 1% of graduating
seniors. The team has participated in the U.S. Department of Energy's Science
Bowl and the San Joaquin County Office of Education's Academic Decathlon.
Jamie has also been bestowed the Record's Pinnacle Team Award. She is one of five
students from Tokay to receive this honor. Jamie's outstanding academic record,
SAT scores, community involvement and her extracurricular school activities have
been recognized by one of the nation's top universities. Jamie was accepted under
the Early Decision program last December to attend Stanford University in the fall.
