HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - October 19, 2022 C-12rti ry CITY OF �;4la zt� W=� CALIFORNIA COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA ITEM C-12 AGENDA TITLE: Accept Improvements Under Contract for Blakely Park Sport Fields & Irrigation Improvements MEETING DATE: October 19, 2022 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: Accept Improvements under Contract for Blakely Park Sport Fields & Irrigation Improvements BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In 2017, the City was awarded a grant from the State Parks, Office of Grants and Local Services in the amount of $882,340 for the Blakely Park Sports Fields and Irrigation Improvements (project). This project includes new turf, irrigation system, basketball court, soccer field, and baseball diamond renovations at Blakely Park. The new irrigation system, including a booster pump, is estimated to save approximately 1 million gallons of water per year. The contract was awarded to Emert Construction, of Stockton, in the amount of $896,872, on December 01, 2021 and authorized the City Manager to execute Change Orders in the amount not -to -exceed $135,000. All work was completed in substantial conformance with the plans and specifications approved by City Council. The final contract price was $994,338.98 with $97,497 in change orders. A summary of the change orders are below. CO 1: Additional concrete flatwork, install conduit for future electrical receptacles $ 41,491.82 CO 2: Install concrete curb, and mulch, modification of irrigation $ 17,760.00 CO 3: Install sod instead of hydro -seed; credit to reduce maintenance period $ 6,637.00 CO 4: Install Sod in front of well enclosure; Install new park sign $ 22,866.16 CO 5: Provide 8 additional pallets of Turface Mix (infield material for ball fields) $ 7,400.00 CO 6: Install bracing behind backstops 1,312.00 Cumulative Change Order Amount: $ 97,496.98 Following acceptance by the City Council, as required by law, the City Engineer will file a Notice of Completion with the County Recorder's office. The notice serves to notify vendors and subcontractors that the project is complete and begins their 30 -day period to file a stop notice requiring the City to withhold payments from the prime contractor in the event of a payment dispute. FISCAL IMPACT: This project will slightly increase annual park maintenance costs while reducing costs associated with irrigating the park by saving water.
