RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation of proclamation proclaiming the week of October
16-22, 2022, as "Public Power Week" in Lodi.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Public Power Week is an annual national observance coordinated by the
American Public Power Association — the voice of not-for-profit, community -
owned utilities that power thousands of towns and cities nationwide.
Lodi Electric Utility (LEU) is celebrating Public Power Week, October 16-22, 2022, along with more than 2,000 other
community -owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.
This year, we are focusing on educating the next generation of public power customers and telling the young
members of our community about the benefits of being community -powered. We are also helping them to learn
more about how to save energy and stay safe around power. We are proud to provide reliable, affordable and
sustainable power to Lodi. We hope that young people in our community and their families acknowledge this vital
service and maybe even look to the utility as a good place to work down the road.
Since 1910, LEU has continued its commitment to the needs of the community; providing courteous, professional
service for safe, reliable, and competitively -priced power,
For more than 20 years, LEU staff has opened its doors and hosted an open house to educate elementary aged
students by showing them demonstrations from electric line crews in addition to teaching them about electric safety
practices. After two years of hiatus due to the pandemic, LEU staff is happy to announce the resurgence of LEU's
annual open house. On October 19, 2022, LEU staff will be hosting its annual open house to 400 elementary school
students. Normally LEU hosts over 800 students, however being committed to safety, LEU has curtailed their
invitations to a smaller group of students this year.
Senior Administrative Clerk, Justine Delgado will be accepting the proclamation on behalf of LEU from Mayor
