COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Receive Direction from City Council on Dedicating Staff Time towards Initiating the Surplus
Lands Act Process for the Old Firehouse Located on Real Property located at 114 North
Main Street in Lodi for the Purpose of Lease or Purchase
MEETING DATE: August 17, 2022
PREPARED BY: Business Development Manager
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Receive direction from City Council on dedicating staff time towards
initiating the Surplus Lands Act process for real property located at
114 North Main Street in Lodi.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The old Firehouse is located on Block 29 of the Assessor's Map, and the
City ownership encompasses 2.46 acres, or about 75 percent of Block 29.
The Firehouse is located on 5,500 square feet of the western half of the
site on about .624 acres. It is a two-story bui ding built in 1912 that originally served as the City's first firehouse
and city hall. The gross building area is aboLt 3,150 square feet. The building and roof are in poor condition,
and while no current conditions report exists, the building may not be structurally sound. While a city water
tower and a secured yard for equipment and materials are also located on the western portion of the block, the
initiation of the Surplus Lands Act would not include these improvements.
Should City Council approve the dedication of staff time towards initiating the Surplus Lands Act process,
additional due diligence providing more detailed information concerning the old structure, area of land,
valuation, and other physical site considerations will be presented.
