BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Representative from Lodi Sister City Committee Mr. Bill Hinkle will present the City Council with a gift from Kofu, Japan, in honor of the 601' anniversary,of the Sister City relationship between Lodi and Kofu. The gift included a crystal figurine of Lord Takeda Shingen and a crystal bracelet. FISCAL IMPACT: FUNDING AVAILABLE Not appl cable. To begin with, we would like to thank you again for visiting Kofu in April 2019 to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of Kofu City. Coronavirus has been spreading around the world. It has made it quite challenging for us to visit in person to grow our friendship. Since 1961, Kofu City and Lodi City have been in a sister city relationship, and it was a great pleasure that we celebrated the 60th Anniversary last year. Kofu City is please to send you and the people of Lodi City a crystal figurine of Lord Takeda Shingen, in commemoration of our anniversary. Kofu City possesses unique and the top laser processing technologies of Crystal and gems in Japan. Lord Takeda Shingen is a great hero of Kofu City, who is considered to be the strongest warlord of the time. He established the foundation for Kofu City about 500 years ago. We hope the people of Lodi City will be excited to see it. Also Kofu City Council is excited to send you a bracelet made of crystals, which you can rarely find these days. These crystals were mined in Kofu City and the bracelet was made with traditional processing technologies. In closing, we are hopeful the world collectively end the pandemic sometime soon and that we can get a chance to see you again soon. Crystal has a long history. Many crystal arrowheads were found in some ancient ruins throughout-Yamanashi Prefecture. The mines in Yamanashi Prefecture were put under direct control of the central government during Edo period (1603-1867) on the grounds that crystals which were mined in Yamanashi Prefecture were high in quality. Processed crystals were dedicated to temples and shrines, throughout the country. Today, all of crystal mines in Yamanashi Prefecture have been closed. XThis bracelet is made of natural crystals.
