HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - February 21, 2001 E-03AGENDA TITLE: Approve Plans and Specifications and Authorize Advertisement for Bids for Elm Street Improvements, School Street to Sacramento Street MEETING DATE: February 21, 2001 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the plans and specifications for the above project and authorize advertising for bids. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project will reconstruct Elm Street between School Street and Sacramento Street. This block of Elm Street will be the main pedestrian corridor between Sacramento Street and the cinema complex on the corner of Elm Street and School Street. The reconstruction project will replace the existing curb, gutter and sidewalk and asphalt street with pavers, street trees, streetlights, decorative overhead lights, street benches, and trash receptacles. A decorative pattern will also be constructed in Elm Street at the entrance to the parking lot at 15 West Elm Street. (See Exhibit A.) In order to reduce the lead time on the street lights, the City will order the poles directly from the manufacturer since they match the other Downtown streetlights. The Preliminary Plan was reviewed with property owners and Council in July 1999, and the Council authorized a design agreement with Worthington and Associates in March 2000. The plans are on file in the Public Works Department. FUNDING: The money for this project will be coming from the Community Development Block Grant Fund, Street Fund and the Electric Utility Fund. A request for appropriation of funds will be made at contract award.
