BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Sodium Hypochlorite is a disinfection chemical used at water treatment facilities. The City of Lodi Surface Water Treatment Facility has a sodium hypochlorite chemical generation system and two storage tanks to store the chemical. The current tanks were installed in 2012 and one has an irreparable crack that required a temporary repair recommended by the manufacturer of the tanks. Due to the critical nature of these tanks, staff recommends replacing both the damaged tank and the undamaged tank of equal age, so that we do not experience a critical failure leading to an extended shutdown due to the long lead time on these tanks. Staff recommends authorizing City Manager to purchase two chemical storage tanks from Poly Processing of French Camp, CA, for storage of sodium hypochlorite at the Surface Water Treatment Facility, in the amount of $29,358. FISCAL IMPACT: Funding for the two chemical storage tanks is included in the Water Operations budget. This project will not impact the General Fund.
