BACKGROUND INFORMATION: At the November 1, 2000, City Council meeting, City Council authorized the City Manager to execute the professional service agreement with Mark Thomas & Company, Inc., to prepare the design work for the Kettleman Lane Widening Project. After the design consultant and staff evaluated the project, it was determined that the project limits could be expanded within the project budget. The project was expanded to include the 0.5 -mile segment between Cherokee Lane and Stockton Street. This segment has had several collisions involving turning vehicles. To eliminate these types of collisions, the additional work includes a raised median within the existing right of way. In addition, dual left -turn lanes on the Kettleman Lane eastbound approach at Cherokee Lane will be designed to accommodate the high turning volume and improve the intersection operations. The design consultants will prepare plans and specifications, as well as provide the environmental documentation for this segment. In addition, the scope of the project will include the landscape design of the proposed raised median for both segments. The consultant, along with staff, will conduct a public information meeting on February 20, 2001, to gather public input from the community. Notices were distributed to all the property owners and tenants along these segments, and ads were placed in the local newspaper. Staff recommends City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute the attached work order.
