AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Authorizing City Manager to Purchase One Hogg and Davis Cable
Pulling Trailer from Terex Utilities, Inc. of Stockton ($210,000)
MEETING DATE: April 20, 2022
PREPARED BY: Electric Utility Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to purchase one Hogg
and Davis Cable Pulling Trailer from Terex Utilities, Inc. of Stockton in an
amount not to exceed $210,000.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION. Lodi Electric Utility (LEU) currently uses a 1987 Hogg and Davis pulling
trailer (Equipment No. 09-123) to perform cable pulling activities
associated with the underground electric distribution system.
This equipment, used on a regular basis, is over 30 years old and has exceeded the life expectancy for this
type of equipment. Repair costs to date total $1,635. This equipment is critical to ensuring safe, reliable
electric service for LEU customers but is unfortunately worn out and no longer able to be repaired to operate
as designed.
On March 15, 2022, LEU requested bids from three vendors to replace the existing cable pulling trailer. Two
suppliers submitted proposals, summarized in the table below. Similar proposals were received from both the
manufacturer of the equipment and a local authorized distributor. Due to the long lead time, neither vendor who
submitted a proposal was willing to provide an estimate for freight/delivery.
