HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - February 7, 2001 E-07IN I CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Approve specifications and authorize advertisement for bids for Replacement Communications Radio Base Station/Transmitters (FD) MEETING DATE: February 7, 2001 PREPARED BY: Fire Chief RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications and authorize advertisement for bids for four 100-25 watt base station/transmitters for the Fire Department. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Three of the four units will replace existing Fire Department transmitters located in the radio equipment room behind the Public Safety building. Replacement parts are no longer available from the manufacturer for these existing transmitters. This equipment is needed regardless of future decisions to move fire department dispatching to Stockton Fire Dispatch. Radio and communication equipment needs for moving to Stockton Fire Dispatch are still being assessed. The fourth unit will enable the dispatch center to monitor, communicate, and tape-record radio traffic on the tactical channel. Currently only field units can communicate on this channel. This ability will help contribute to firefighter safety. The department expects to use the existing antenna and cabling at the installation site, thus avoiding the cost of purchasing and installing these additional items.
