AGENDA IfTEM CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION TM AGENDA TITLE: Presentation of the Lodi Police Partners Memorial Garden MEETING DATE: PREPARED BY November 17, 2021 Chief of Police 6,02 RECOMMENDED ACTION: Receive presentation on the Lodi Police Partners Memorial Garden. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In 2019 Gage Canestrino started planning a project to earn his Eagle Scout rank. He heard that the Lodi Police Partners wanted a way to commemorate Partners that passed away while still serving the volunteer program. The idea of the memorial garden was born from this need. Due to Covid the project took a little longer than expected, however, in October of 2021 the project was completed and is now beautifully celebrating the individuals that have served the City of Lodi community by volunteering for the Lodi Police Department. Gage had the assistance of Public Works, Risk, and the Streets Division to complete this project. He also raised over $6,000 from community businesses to offset costs, Gage Canestrino will be presenting his project to Council. FISCAL IMPACT: Not applicable. FUNDING AVAILABLE: Not applicable. It was closing schools, government buildings, businesses and severely restricting travel worldwide. Due to restrictions imposed by Boy Scouts of America, and restrictions put in place by the City of Lodi, there was noway for me to even begin to work on this project for the all of 2020. The project would have to wait until 2021........ As COVID subsides the project goes into overdrive Winter of 2021 As COVID-19 restrictions began to ease in 2021, I saw the opportunity to break ground on the project. LPD Partners already had 48 bricks with names inscribed on them. They wanted the garden to showcase these bricks and leave room for adding bricks in the future, as needed. - -- By the time the project broke ground, there were 56 bricks to be placed in the garden. .y F IF at 8L 9Z 1Q Planning and Design The first steps were to create a rough draft of the design, identify possible problems, and to seek solutions to the identified problems. rro ;m [arf ExY'Ine f -- Get expert help and formalize the design March of 2021 It takes a team effort to complete a project like this one. enlisted the help of a local landscaper to formalize the design and began making presentations to local service groups and businesses to raise funds for the project.
