Home My WebLink AboutAgenda Report - October 20, 2021 C-08AGENDA ITEM f 2 CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION TM AGENDA TITLE: Adopt Resolution Approving Purchase of Dell PowerEdge MX7000 Chassis, PowerEdge MX740C Blade Servers, Windows Server 2019 Datacenter Operating System and Five Years of Dell ProSupport from Ahead, Inc., of Chicago, Illinois ($430,000) MEETING DATE: October 20, 2021 PREPARED BY: Information Technology Manager RECOMMENDED ACTION: Adopt resolution approving purchase of Dell PowerEdge MX7000 chassis, PowerEdge MX740C blade servers, Windows Server 2019 Datacenter operating system and five years of Dell ProSupport from Ahead, Inc., of Chicago, Illinois ($430,000) BACKGROUND INFORMATION: As part of the City's efforts to replace aging network infrastructure, a refresh of the City's virtual server infrastructure is scheduled for fiscal year 2021/22. The project is funded by budget appropriation in Fiscal Year 2021/22 and will replace the current Dell virtual server chassis and blade servers that are scheduled to be end -of - life in 2022. At the end of this project the City will have newer and more reliable equipment, improved computer power, stability and lower the risk of system failure. The virtual server infrastructure hosts application software used by various departments in the daily operations of City business. In accordance with Lodi Municipal Code Section 3.20.077, the Information Technology Manager has the ability to acquire electronic hardware through negotiation, requests for proposal or competitive bids and award based on "best value" criteria. The Information Technology Manager has selected to utilize the negotiation method for acquiring two Dell PowerEdge MX7000 chassis, twelve Dell PowerEdge MX740C blade servers, Microsoft Sever 2019 Datacenter operating systems and five years of Dell ProSupport from Ahead, Inc., a value added reseller of Dell equipment for the following reasons: • IT manufactures will work with one value-added reseller (VAR) when creating quotes for products for a single customer. • Other VARs will not quote a product from the same manufacture if a prior quote had already been created for a competing VAR for a single customer. It is the staff recommendation to purchase the two Dell PowerEdge MX7000 chassis, twelve Dell PowerEdge MX740C blade servers, Microsoft Sever 2019 Datacenter operating systems, and five years of Dell ProSupport, from Dell value added reseller, Ahead, Inc., for the amount of $430,000. FISCAL IMPACT: The appropriation for this purchase is included in the Fiscal Year 2021/22 budget.
