RECOMMENDED ACTION- Presentation of proclamation proclaiming the week of October
3-9, 2021, as "Public Power Week" in Lodi.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION. Public Power Week is an annual national observance coordinated
by the American Public Power Association — the voice of not-for-
profit, community -owned utilities that power thousands of towns and
cities nationwide.
Lodi Electric Utility (LEU) is celebrating Public Power Week, October 3-9, along with more than 2,000
other community -owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million
Americans.
This year, we especially celebrate the employees of LEU — the people behind public power. These staff
work tirelessly to keep our community up and running 24 hours a day seven days a week. LEU's
dedicated staff work together toward a common goal — keeping Lodi residents and businesses powered.
Since 1910, LEU has continued its commitment to the needs of the community; providing courteous,
professional service for safe, reliable, and competitively -priced power.
For more than 20 years, LEU staff has opened its doors and hosted an open house to educate
elementary aged students by showing them demonstrations from electric line crews in addition to
teaching them about electric safety practices. LEU anticipates this annual tradition to start back up again
next year once facility construction and renovation activities are complete.
Senior Administrative Clerk, Jennifer Whiteman will be accepting the proclamation on behalf of LEU from
Mayor Nakanishi.
