ADAMS, CHIEF OF POLICE RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize the Lodi Police Department to purchase technical equipment to enhance security at the Lodi High School and Tokay High School and technical equipment to equip a proposed mobile command platform. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On September 6, 2000, the Lodi Police Department applied and received a Grant from the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program Funds in the amount of $88,254, which includes matching funds of $8,825. The source of the matching funds will be taken from the 2000/2001 Lodi Police Department Budget. When the funds are received, they will be placed in a special revenue fund, pending dispersal. On October 5, 2000, an Advisory Board convened and reviewed the proposal for the disbursement of those funds. The proposal indicated that we would purchase technical equipment to enhance security at both high schools and to provide technical equipment for a proposed mobile command platform. The Advisory Board consisted of the following persons: Dr. Rich Ferrara, Associate Superintendent, Lodi Unified School District Dave Warner, Judge, Superior Court DDA Thomas Ziegler (absent) Richard Jones, President, Lodi Boys and Girls Club Charles Mauch, Captain, Lodi Police Department Jerry Adams, Chief, Lodi Police Department Julie Wall, Lodi Police Department The Advisory Board agreed with the proposal and made no other recommendations. Don Flynn -- City manager, RESOLUTION NO. 2000-203 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL APPROVING THE TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT PURCHASE PROPOSAL FOR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM -------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- WHEREAS, the Lodi City Council authorized the Lodi Police Department to accept Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program Funds in the amount of $79,429.00 and provide matching funds in the amount of $8,825.00 to be taken from the 2000/2001 Lodi Police Department budget; and WHEREAS, the Proposal for the disbursement of the funds included the purchase of technical equipment to enhance security at Lodi High School and Tokay High School, and technical equipment to equip a proposed mobile command platform; and WHEREAS, on October 5, 2000 an Advisory Board convened and reviewed the proposal for the disbursement of these funds and have agreed with the proposal as presented and made no other recommendations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council hereby authorizes the Lodi Police Department to purchase technical equipment to enhance security at Lodi High School and Tokay High School, and to purchase technical equipment to equip a proposed mobile command platform, in the amount of $79,429.00 plus the additional amount of $8,825.00 representing matching funds from the Lodi Police Department budget. All interested persons are invited to present their views and comments on this matter. Written statements may be filed with the City Clerk at any time prior to the hearing scheduled herein, and oral statements may be made at said hearing.
