HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - November 15, 2000 E-20AGENDA TITLE: Public Benefits Program Grant — Jack In The Box Demand-side Management Project
($6,185.73)
MEETING DATE: November 15, 2000
PREPARED BY: Electric Utility Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve a Public Benefits Program grant in the amount
of $6,185.73 for the new Jack In The Box restaurant, located at 2449 W.
Kettleman Lane, for a demand-side management project.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Jack In The Box Incorporated is one of the nations more aggressive entities
in regards to the implementation of high efficiency and energy efficient
equipment. A representative from the Jack In The Box corporate office
initiated communications with the City of Lodi Electric Utility, inquiring about energy rebates. To that end, Electric
Utility staff reviewed the plans and specifications for the new Jack In The Box restaurant on Kettleman Lane, and
determined that the following equipment/materials met or exceeded energy efficiency standards:
➢ two (2) 12.5 ton high efficiency heating & cooling units (a seasonal energy efficiency rating of 10.0 per unit);
➢ fifty-five (55) T-8 fluorescent lamps with electronic ballasts;
➢ LED (light -emitting diode) exit signs throughout the facility;
➢ twenty-two (22) outdoor metal halide lamps/fixtures with photo cells.
The $6,185.73 Public Benefits Program grant reflects a 25 percent rebate on the total cost of the aforementioned high
efficiency/energy efficient equipment and materials. This is consistent with all other commercial and industrial Public
Benefit Program grants issued since the start of the city's Public Benefits Program in 1998. The rebate is identified as
a demand-side management project, more commonly referred to as energy conservation. Based upon the high
efficiency equipment listed above, Jack In The Box restaurant will reduce energy consumption in excess of 20 percent.
After reviewing the various plans and specifications, and discussing the project at length with Jack In The Box
representatives, the City of Lodi Electric Utility respectfully recommends approval of this rebate as a qualifying
component of the City of Lodi Public Benefits Program.
