RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve specifications and authorize advertisement for bids for 2020
Extruded Traffic Stripes.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Since 2009, the City has been using extruded thermoplastic traffic
stripes rather than sprayed thermoplastic. The extruded
thermoplastic material has proven to be the superior product.
Although extruded thermoplastic costs approximately 15 percent more than sprayed thermoplastic, it is
expected to last 67 percent longer (five years verses three years).
The streets included in this bi-annual project include various streets, as shown on Exhibit A. A summary
of the total traffic striping and legend applications per street is shown in the table below:

The specifications are on file in the Public Works Department. The planned bid opening date is
December 16, 2020. The project estimate is $80,000.
FISCAL IMPACT: This project will extend the useful life of the lane lines, which will reduce
overall maintenance costs.
FUNDING AVAILABLE: Funding will be identified at project award.
