BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Lodi Police Foundation, a California non-profit corporation, has over the past several years donated funding for several equipment purchases for use by the Lodi Police Department. These donations are integral to the Lodi Police Department's needs that are not met through the general fund. Staff would like to acknowledge the financial commitment the Foundation has made to the success of the department. The Lodi Police Department has ordered and received a Ford Expedition; the funds have been approved to install the typical safety/emergency equipment for the vehicle to be used as a Watch Commander's vehicle. Recent activity experienced by Lodi police has sparked interest in having a command vehicle to act as a mobile command post. Command vehicles are used to establish or enhance communication and coordination during emergency incidents and special security events. This vehicle will leverage internet access, video capabilities, computer docking, and more to enhance communication between department staff, and other local response support when needed. This vehicle will also be used for day- to-day patrol by the Watch Commanders. The Lodi Police Foundation is donating $25,747.39 to the City to purchase equipment and installation for a command vehicle for use by the Lodi Police Department. Staff requests that the Council accept the cash donation from the Foundation, designate the disposition of the funds for the purchase of the quoted equipment and installation by Lehr Auto Electric Services of Sacramento, California, and appropriate the same. As discussed, the department has already ordered and received a Ford Expedition and the funds have been approved to install the typical safety/emergency equipment for the Watch Commanders vehicle. The Foundation would like to donate the additional funding to make this vehicle into a command vehicle. We understand the quote has been received from Lehr and that the amount for the additional equipment to make the Expedition a command vehicle totals $25,747.39. The board approved donating the entire amount of $25.747.39 to cover the cost of the additional equipment and installation from Lehr Auto Electric Services of Sacramento, California.
