HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - December 20, 2000 E-06AGENDA TITLE: Approve Specifications and Authorize Advertisement for Bids for North School Street Sycamore Tree Trimming, 2000 MEETING DATE: December 20, 2000 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications for the above project and authorize advertising for bids. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This project will provide for the trimming of 95 sycamore trees along North School Street from Lockeford Street to Louie Avenue. The objective of this contract is to improve tree safety, tree health, and structural integrity of existing trees. These 95 sycamore trees were last trimmed during the winter of 1994 by City crews. These 95 trees are now in extremely poor condition with many broken, cracked, and dead branches throughout their canopies. These conditions pose a hazard to the public with the potential for falling branches overhead. Crown cleaning and crown thinning for all the sycamore trees is recommended. The least stressful time to do this work for the health of the trees is in early winter when growth is at a minimum, and they are defoliated. The specifications are on file in the Public Works Department. FUNDING: The money for this project was approved in the Capital Improvement Budget. Project Estimate: $31,200 Budgeted: 1999/2001 budget Planned Bid Opening Date: January 3, 2001 AA Richard C. Prima, Public Works Director Prepared by George M.
