HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - October 4, 2000 E-12CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Creation of a Swimming Pool Task Force
MEETING DATE: October 4, 2000
SUBMITTED BY: Deputy City Manager
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council create a Swimming Pool Task Force to
evaluate the feasibility of a City -owned 50 meter pool.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Lodi has a Joint Use Agreement with the Lodi
Unified School District (LUSD) for use of various fields and facilities, including swimming pools. It
has become more apparent that in spite of the Agreement, scheduling conflicts are becoming
more frequent for the use of the Tokay Pool leaving coaches, swimmers, and swimmers' parents
frustrated and angry. City staff have met with LUSD representatives, and will continue to do so,
to discuss the ongoing situation with the scheduling issue. However, it has recently been brought
to the Council's attention that a 50 -meter City owned pool should be considered to meet present
and future demands for swimming and water polo activities.
It is recommended that the Council create a Swimming Pool Task Force, which would be
responsible for evaluating appropriate locations, pool criteria, and operating options. The Task
Force would work with City staff and would be responsible for providing Council with a course of
recommended action.
FUNDING: Not Applicable.
Respectfully,
