RECOMMENDED ACTION Presentation of proclamation proclaiming Tuesday, October 6,2020,
as "National Night Out."
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Lodi Police Department established the Neighborhood
Watch Program in 1985. Police officers were specially trained to

Neighborhood Watch with approximately 100 active and organized neighborhoods.
ln 1988, Lodijoined the National Association of Town Watch and began taking part in National Night Out.
Thousands of communities and hundreds of thousands of citizens participate in National Night Out each
year. Neighborhood Watch is a critical component in our ability to succeed in addressing crime issues
within our local community. lt is important that the citizens of Lodi are aware of the impact their individual
and group participation has on reducing crime in Lodi.
Unfortunately, this year in order to stop the spread of Coronavirus City staff will not be visiting
Neighborhood Watch groups and is encouraging groups not to meet in person. The Lodi Police
Department and our Crime Prevention volunteers would like to reinforce the importance of Neighborhood
Watch. We encourage the community to get creative with their National Night Out networking and
consider a virtual gathering or an email campaign to disseminate Neighborhood Watch information. The
Lodi Police Department is pleased to make a virtual appearance and/or help with any electronic meeting
setup. Please contact Chuck Fromm at (209) 333-6864 or email cfromm@lodi.gov to set up an
appointment.
Staff anticipates and truly looks fonruard to next year when our community can come together and
observe National Night Out in person.
