CITY OF •DI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
OQOP
AGENDA TITLE: Approve Specifications and Authorize Advertisement for Bids for One Multi -Angle
Camera and One Self -Propelled Transporter for the Water/Wastewater Division
MEETING DATE: September 20, 2000
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the specifications for the above project and
authorize advertising for bids.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Water/Wastewater Division utilizes a main line camera and
transporter in troubleshooting customer sewer problems, TV-ing of
new subdivision sewer lines (storm and sanitary sewers) for
acceptance by the City, and TV-ing problem areas in the City's
existing systems. The current eight-year old main line camera and the transporter were purchased in
December 1992. The life expectancy at purchase, based on our frequency of use, was anticipated to be
eight years. Over the past three years, the existing equipment has accumulated $6,582.23 in repair costs
and created costly downtime during some critical projects. The existing camera and transporter will be a
backup system to minimize delays in the completion of future TV-ing projects and to help prolong the life of
the new camera and transporter. This purchase would be timely in preparation for the anticipated
replacement of aged sewers on the Eastside.
The specifications are on file in the Public Works Department.
FUNDING: The money for this project was approved in the Wastewater Utility Capital Improvement
Budget.
Project Estimate: $31,420
