Chief of Police
RECOMMENDED ACTION Presentation of Proclamation proclaiming the month of October
201 9 as #PinkPatchProject.
BAC KGROU ND IN FORMATION:ln October 2015, the #PinkPatchProject was launched at the
lrwindale Police Department. The idea arose in 2013 after the
lnruindale Police Chief discovered that several family members of
the department had lost their battles with breast cancer.
The lrwindale Police Officers Association created pink patches and T-shirts and raised over $20,000 for
the City of Hope nonprofit by selling their items at Coffee with a Cop and National Night Out events. The
pink patches were also displayed on uniforms for the entire month of October 2015. Through the use of
social media and news outlets, the #PinkPatchProject became a nationwide campaign. The City of Lodi
Police Department is the 45th California law enforcement agency to participate in the #PinkPatchProject.
All agencies donate all proceeds to local non-profits in support of cancer awareness and survival.
The Lodi Police Department would like to declare the month of October #PinkPatchProject and proudly
display pink badges, patches and hash marks to support cancer awareness and survival. The Lodi Police
Foundation will procure the patches, which will be displayed on their uniforms for the month of October.
The Department will also sell approximately 400 patches throughout the month of October for $10 and
will be available for sale at the Police Department lobby during normal business hours. All proceeds from
the patch will be given to a local cancer charitable organization, Cancer Kids of San Joaquin County.
