RECOMMENDED AGTION Adopt resolution authorizing City Manager to execute change orders to
Lodi Fire Station No.1 Kitchen Remodel Project, in an amount not to
exceed $8,000, and appropriating funds in an amount not to exceed
$8,000.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Fire Station No.1 Kitchen Remodel projectwas awarded to
Sauren Construction and Electric, of Elk Grove, in the amount of
$63,727, on June 19, 2019. The resolution also authorized the City
Manager to execute contract change orders in an amount not to exceed $12,500.
This project includes resurfacing the kitchen cabinets, installing a new counter top, installing a new sink
and plumbing fixtures, removing existing floor tiles, polishing the existing concrete floor in the kitchen and
dining areas, and other miscellaneous and related work.
During the building permit review process, a number of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
requirements were identified and need to be incorporated into the project. The City Manager executed
Change Order No.1 ($12,498.14) to install new base cabinet and adjust the counter height, not to exceed
34 inches. The Building Department later required an ADA-compliant kitchen faucet to be installed at an
additional cost of $778.55, requiring a second change order. Change Order No. 2 is to furnish the ADA-
compliant faucet fixtures. The new project cost with Change Orders No. I and No. 2 is $77,004.
Since the combined change order amount ($13,276.69) exceeds the Council authorized amount of
$12,500, staff is requesting Council authorize the City Manager to execute additional change orders in an
amount not to exceed $8,000, for a total change order amount of $20,500. This additional amount will
cover Change Order No. 2 and potentialfuture change orders as construction continues, with a new
maximum project cost of $84,227.
Staff recommends authorizing City Manager to execute change orders for Lodi Fire Station No.I Kitchen
Remodel Project, in an amount not to exceed $8,000, and appropriating funds in an amount not to
exceed $8,000.
FISCAL IMPAGT:The project will reduce maintenance costs of the aged kitchen facilities and
improve fire personnel working environment. This project is funded by the
General Fund.
