Home My WebLink AboutAgenda Report - August 16, 2000 E-07CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Purchase of Polemount Transformers ($31,620.32) MEETING DATE: August 16, 2000 PREPARED BY: Electric Utility Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution awarding the bid for the purchase of 45 polemount transformers to the bidders whose proposals and equipment meet City of Lodi specifications, and whose transformers are expected to yield the lowest overall life -cycle costs, Wesco Distribution, San Francisco 7 ea 25KVA Conventional $ 3,884.39 15 ea 50KVA Conventional $ 11,588.51 15 ea 50KVA CP $ 12.897.68 G E Supply Co., North Highlands, CA $ 28,370.58 8 ea 15KVA Conventional $ 3,249.74 $ 31,620.32 BACKGROUND INFORMATION: On May 19, 1999, the City Council approved specifications and authorized advertisement for bids for polemount and padmount transformers as necessary to meet the Department's needs through Fiscal Year 1999-2001. On July 26, 2000, bids for 40 polemount transformers were opened and total life -cycle costs were evaluated. (Life -cycle costs are the combined total of purchase price plus cost of operation based on estimated power loss during the projected life of the transformer. Proposals are also evaluated on the basis of compliance with equipment and bid specifications. Failure to comply with both may lead to disqualification of the bid). A summary of the bid evaluation is attached as Exhibit A. Subsequent to the opening of the bids the need for five additional 50kVA conventional transformers became known, increasing the 50kVA requirement from 10 to 15, and the total number of polemount transformers recommended for purchase from 40 to 45. The five additional 50kVA units are needed to provide a service voltage change at the church located at Hutchins and Tokay Streets The other 40 transformers will be used to serve commercial and industrial developments on Guild Avenue, Commerce Street and Industrial Way, to increase capacity at various locations throughout the city, and to replenish the Department's inventory.
