The Lodi Adopt -A -Child Foundation began
as the idea of a Police Officer. He wished to fill
an obvious need he saw within our community.
"There are children that fail in life because of missed
oppomurities to join productive groups and agartiiations
or to receive a gift of love." Community Volunteers
and Contributors rallied to form Lodi Adopt -A -
Child as an effort to grant the disadvantaged
youth of our community an opportunity to
secure a special Christmas wish or a chance to
attend a summer/science camp. Perhaps a child
needs financial help to join a youth group
instead of a gang or to secure warm or adequate
clothing or new supplies for school. These may
not be possible. because of the economic
situation of his or her parent(s); or, because the
child is the victim of some form of abuse.
What is a child worth?

PROGRAMS
1. Back -to -School Shopping Spree
This fall we have partnered with Wal*Mart to give a
S100 gift certificate to each of 100 children on
September 9t. Children are paired with a chaperone
to help in their fall clothing selections at Wal*Mart. A
breakfast begins the day's activities and a small party
ends the day complete with clowns, a new school
backpack containing coupons, school supplies, and
goodies donated by local merchants.
Last year, we managed to fill the needs of 76
children. This year our hope is to have sufficient
funds to accomplish a long awaited goal of 100
children.
2 . Christmas With Santa
Each Christmas Season, we strive to fill that special
Christmas wish of a disadvantaged child. Each child
is asked what s/he would like Santa to bring in the
way of an article of clothing and a toy. The
Foundation then seeks sponsors to fulfill those
wishes.
For Christmas 1999 we managed to fulfill the wishes
of over 775 children and granted the wish of a new
bicycle to over 200 children_
3. Camps
The Foundation assists children to attend Science
Camp, Summer Camp, and school outings by
furnishing funds to purchase their attendance. This
enables a child the same opportunity to experience
the same as his or her classmates and friends instead
of feeling left out and apart from friends.
4 . Emergency Assistance
The Foundation assists families with children that
experience hardships, disasters, and life altering
tragedies. A disaster caused by fire is a very,
traumatizing event for an adult let alone a child. The
Foundation is there to lend assistance with new
clothing, toys, school supplies, and support
HOWARE CHILDREN SET EC'ED?
The Foundation receives the names of families in need
from Lodi Police Officers during their daily contacts with
families and children. The Lodi Unified School District
supplies the majority of the children's names for our
Annual Christmas and beyond School Programs. Both of
these organizations deal with the families with children
that are most in need on a daily basis.
FUNDRAISING
Lodi Adopt -A -Child raises funds in many ways besides
our direct mail appeals for funding.
1. Past Fundraising Efforts
For the past eleven years, The Foundation has raised
money with Yard Sales, Softball Tournaments,
Dinners, Street Dances, Car & Motorcycle Shows,
Tupperware Sales, and raffles to name a few. We
have our own cookbook from recipes donated by
our volunteers from many parts of the States and
beyond.
2 . Lodi Street Faire
Each spring and fall, we join many vendors in the
Downtown Core selling items to raise funds and to
raise the awareness of the needs of the children in
our community.
3 . Angel Recognition Dinner
This `Black Tie Optional' dinner & dance is a
fundraising effort for our Back to School Clothing
Program as well as a way to recognize some of our
many volunteers and contributors during the past
fiscal year.
4 . Hot Rod & Harley Show (July 23, 2000)
For the past two years, this event has been our major
fundraising effort for our back to school clothing
program and was originally held in beautiful
downtown Lodi. This year we chose to hold it at
Lodi Lake because of the Family oriented
atmosphere and children's games we will have.

Micke Grove Golf Links has generously donated this
course as a fundraiser for The Foundation. Although
the tournament is still being organized, it is shaping
up to be a fun and exciting event for both the avid
and not so avid golfer.
WHAT KIND OF ORGANIZATION IS
THIS FOUNDATION?
The Lodi Adopt -A -Child Foundation was formed in
1989 as a Public Service Committee of the Police
Officers' Association of Lodi. On that first Christmas in
1989, the Foundation gave special gifts to 30 children and
furnished a complete Christmas Dinner to the children
and their families. In 1996 The Foundation was
reorganized as a California Non -Profit Corporation and a
tax-exempt Foundation under IRS rale 501(c)3.
A fifteen member volunteer Board of Directors elected
from the general public in April each year operates the
Foundation. The Board of Directors meets on a monthly
basis to conduct planning activities and to ensure that our
a:ms and goals arc met in a timely manner.
Each member of the Board, besides being obligated to
attend meetings, is required to adopt one child's wish for
Christmas and to deliver at least one bicycle to a child
during this special time of giving.
The Foundation is completely funded and supported by
the generosity of Lodi and the surrounding communities.
Our staff is comprised completely of volunteers and none
are paid for their time or volunteer efforts. The Hetz
Family in Lafayette largely donates the building that we
rent at 23 West Pine Street.
The Foundation is in constant need of volunteers for
programs, fundraising, and office work. If you would like
to volunteer for any project, fundraiser, or to just help out
at the office occasionally-, please call us at 333-1056. One
of our volunteers will be glad to explain our immediate
needs.
Currently, we need help with ALL aspects of the
Foundation. We are currently seeking additional members
for our Board of Directors as well as volunteers for the
listed prograins and fundraising efforts.
For more information or to volunteer, please
telephone (209) 333-1056.
