BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Lodi Arts Commission put out a Request for Proposal in April of last year for an art project to be placed in the fountain at the Lodi Station. The theme for the project was "Leaving and Coming Home". There were numerous requests sent in and the project committee chose three finalists to create a final proposal and model of the specific artwork intended for the fountain. Out of the three candidates, the finalist is Rowland H. Cheney for his Sandhilf cranes. The cranes go well with the theme for the Depot as they arrive and leave our valley annually. The original sculpture to be produced by Mr. Cheney, out of bronze, in life scale will be 9 feet tall and 7 feet wide. Their wingspread will be approximately 80 inches. The artist is also willing to produce a limited number of 18 inch tall sculptures that would be for sale with the proceeds being divided with the artist and appropriate city entities. FUNDING: The $30,000 to complete the crane art project will come from F.T.A. funds and T.D.A. monies. $24,000 from Federal Transit Administration and $6,000 from Transportation Development Act.
