Lockeford Elementary School

RECOMMENDED ACTION: That City Council authorize Recreation Staff to administer an After School
Playground Program at Lockeford Elementary School.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: A request has been made by the Human Services Agency of San
Joaquin to the Lodi Parks and Recreation Department to administer
and maintain an After School Playground Program at Lockeford
Elementary School. The County has funds available but does not
have the personnel or program resources in place to implement this program independently. This
program will be at no cost to the City of Lodi. Therefore, we are requesting City Council to authorize the
Parks and Recreation Department to extend its services outside the city limits.
FUNDING: San Joaquin County will fund this p,wqam no I ss than 100%.

Lockeford Narrative
1) What will the Program look like?
The hours of operation will be from 2:45-6:00pm, Monday — Friday and 12:30 on
minimum days for the Modified Traditional Track students that attend Lockeford
Elemetary School. Also, I budgeted for 3 field trips, they could attend performances
at Hutchins Street Square and visit Micke Grove Park. The following is a sample of a
daily schedule:
Bell Rings: (2:45-3:00) Participants meet at the Homework Teacher's room
for roll call.
Homework: (3:00-4:00) All Staff will assist the teacher and participants with
tutoring, reading and other academics.
Snack: (4:00-4:15) A nutritional snack is provided for each participant.
Activities: (4:15-5:00) Organized outdoor games: Soccer, Kickball, Baseball,
Basketball, Watergames, etc.
Activities: (5:00-5:45) Arts and Craft Projects/Board Games: Melty beads,
Bracelets, Legos, Movies, Bingo, etc.
Clean -Up: (5:45-6:00) Sweep, pick up and put away items, and wipe down
tables.
2) How will it tie to the Homework portion of Lockeford's already existing program?
Our staff will assist the teacher and students in the academics of the School.
