The Mayor has been requested to present a proclamation proclaiming the month of April 2019 as "Sexual Assault Awareness Month" in the City of Lodi. A representative of the Women's Center - Youth & Family Services will be at the meeting to accept the proclamation. FISCAL IMPACT: Not applicable. FUNDING AVAILABLE: Not applicable. 'i ratolo City Clerk , City Manager DENIM DAY SAN JOAQUIN 3-3 WEDNESDAY APRIL 24, 2019 Wear Jeans with a Purpose!• Wear jeans to show your support for victims and survivors of sexual assault. Join us by wearing denim and a Denim Day sticker ($5 suggested donation) on April 24th. If you can't wear denim to work, you can still show your support by purchasing a denim ribbon pin ($5 each) to wear. All proceeds benefit WCYFS' services for victims of sexual assault. If you, your organization or business would like to participate, please fill out and return the participation form. Participation forms can be found on our website at womenseenteryfs.org or by calling (209) 941-2611. Why Denim? Denim Day was established 20 years ago in 1999 after a controversial ruling by the Italian Supreme Court. An 18 -year-old girl in Italy was raped ° by her driving instructor, but the Italian Supreme Court overturned the rape conviction on the basis of the victim's clothing. They concluded that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped to remove them and, therefore, gave consent. Vvearing jeans on Denim ()a} reminds us of the harmful attitudes and misconceptions surrounding se'n,al assault. SNAP A PICTURE!
