COUNCIL COMMUNICATIONlFpR
AGENDA TITLE: Accept Improvements Under Contract for Lodi Lake Fishing Dock,
1101 West Turner Road, and Notification of Final Contract Change Order
MEETING DATE: August 2, 2000
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council accept the improvements under the "Lodi Lake Fishing
Dock, 1101 West Turner Road" contract; appropriate funds in accordance
with the recommendation shown below; and direct the City Engineer to file a
Notice of Completion with the County Recorder's office.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The project was awarded to Hetzler Construction Company, of Lodi,
on January 5, 2000, in the amount of $87,513.00. The contract has
been completed in substantial conformance with the plans and
specifications approved by the City Council.
A requirement of the contract change order policy approved by Resolution 85-72 is that Council be
informed of all change orders over 10% of the contract amount. The attached Contract Change Order
No. 3 is in the amount of $12,072.62, which is 13.8% of the contract. The work includes extra costs
incurred in constructing three caisson footings which had to be redesigned. The original caissons could
not be constructed because storm water releases caused water to back up into the Lake.
The contract completion date and the actual completion date was May 2, 2000. The final contract price
was $103,917.62. The difference between the contract amount and the final contract price is mainly due
to Contract Change Order Number 3 and additional concrete flatwork which was done to improve the
approach to the fishing dock.
At the time of the contract award, staff recommended that an additional $39,000.00 of Parks Capital
Improvement funds be used to fund the project. Staff is now requesting that an additional $15,000.00 be
appropriated from the Parks Capital Improvement fund to pay for the balance of this project.
FUNDING: Budgeted Fund: Community Development Block Grant Fund $50,000.00
Parks Capital Improvement Fund $39,000.00
Requested Appropriation: Parks Capital Improvement Fund $15,000.00
